Performance / GearScore

RE: Performance / GearScore
woah, i'm not trying to create something awsome here. People said hey can you show GearScore divided by DPS? And I said yeah, takes 5 lines of code and added it in. I really don't care how accurate or inaccurate it is. In reality it will only be as accurate as the Recount Addon itself is. So Go and rant at them.

Rainbow RE: Performance / GearScore
I have an idea, what if both were calculated into the equation? GS + Overall Dmg + DPS + Class type = "rank of usefulness". Taking into account the class and roll of each player would also be useful. As each roll has different abilities you should take that into consideration, retadins for instance are burst dmg so dps may weigh higher on their score (or lower) but tanks or mages can usually do more overall dmg, so maybe their overall dmg weighs higher on their "equation of usefulness".

Hmm you would have major adjustments after each nerf that comes out...

I would like to also say that I agree with a guest in stating some boss fights cause some casters to loose dmg or dps because they have to move, but my point is that it makes sense to send them lower on the "rank of usefulness" chart because if they had all instant casts then they would be supremely useful.

Lastly, dmg overall is most important. I have a retadin and the CDs are retardatin long to consistently perform but that is just the type of toon I rolled. single target tank and spank bosses my retadin will out dmg and dps many players often time regardless of GS. Usually the fights that I pwn on my retadin are the ones that only get wiped if the heals or tank goes afk or dc "or some meteor hits someones house".

RE: Performance / GearScore
There's already a page on Recount that shows DPS / GearScore and Healing / GearScore, but it requires gearscore to be installed.

RE: Performance / GearScore
The problem with any metric is that it doesn't measure everything. That's why there are tons of metrics.

I first started writing an argument about why DPS / GS is a fine metric. The argument was basically that the amount of time devoted to trash is so very small compared to boss time. Trying to inflate numbers on trash will make a very small difference. I could napkin math how much a person could inflate their score, but that's not worth the effort. It's small.

But in writing the above argument, I realized the same thing holds for Damage Done. The amount of total damage done to trash is very small compared to boss damage.

In addition, how often do you see DPS and Damage Done being ranked completely different throughout the course of the raid? Assuming you keep the same raiders, DPS and Damage Done are fairly consistent.

So, use either. If we want to get complicated, I think Dispells (Interrupts, if possible!) and Damage Taken should somehow be thrown in. If you can do a ton of damage while dispelling and reducing the damage you take, you got skill.

...right... thats because GearScore adds those pages to recount.

RE: Performance / GearScore
This is a very nice way to partially check if one's self and others are performing to the gear level they have, and I thank you for making it.

RE: Performance / GearScore
You need to be carefull. DemoPact lock can take other spec, because our PF/GS will be always lower then others specs. I'am thinking myself about this.
Activity? Yesterday on Dethwhisper nearly no one was killing dds. DPS-ing Lady gives so better activity Tongue
Sorry for my english.

Sorry, apparently i posted the message in wrong "post" by accident, so i will repeat it here. Admins - feel free to remove either (whichever you find to be in "inappropriate" topic). Copy-paste follows.

Yo

Being among few decent enough to be in top 100, i still have to say i detest anyone using GS for "character audit", and demanding GS when getting a pug invite. I have 8 level 80s, some 264+ geared, some not. Still, time and time again i find myself more competent than others, even those with significantly better gear.
Thing is, some people are "good" at being good raiders, while others arent. A person can have 10,000 GS but still fail horribly, yet all you can see is "LFM HEROIC ICC LINK GS AND YOU GET INVITE". Guess what you get for when you instead link them 12/12 heroic clear from your main? "UR ALT DOESNT USE GS SO NO INVITE".

I know that this is not a fault of creators of GS, but im merely saying that i really hate you for bringing this tool into such use. I know you wanted the best, but what you got is allowing a bunch of "i didnt get into proper guild because im not good enough" to decline anyone they dont like.

There are some things that WOULD make me take the statement back and maybe start using GS as well.
What things?
Things that make it a proper tool, rather than mathematical calculation of how much "pro" you are.

First (and most) try to make it so GS is based not only on gear level, but also on how proper an item is for your class. You can be a full 277 DK, but dual-wield frost specced, using 2handed weapon and spellpower gems "for my diseases". Your GS will get you in any pug, yet an alt that is in 232 gear but min-maxed it to be top-notch for his class/spec wont.

Second, try to intergrate achievements into it. Perhaps GS will be "GEARscore + ACHIscore", because having done heroic BQ25 counts for more than having an item from heroic gunship, for example.

Maybe something else. You can see what i mean. Just please, make GS actually useful, rather than "worthless" as it is in my eyes. Sorry for angry rant.

Peace.
